PURPOSE-BUILT ANALYSIS

From an MT5 report to a risk review

Backtest Lens organizes the report around the questions that matter before an EA goes live: how returns were produced, where losses clustered and whether performance held up over time.

01

Balance and drawdown

Review the balance curve, underwater drawdown and recovery periods on one timeline.

02

Symbols and Magic numbers

Separate combined account history into strategies, instruments and trade directions.

03

Backtest to portfolio

Save reports, group strategies and evaluate combined performance and correlation.

REAL MT5 REPORT

One report, two different drawdown views

The XAUUSD H1 example includes 181 trades and 21,192.70 USD net profit from a 5,000 USD deposit. MetaTrader reports Balance DD of 15.95% and Equity DD of 18.87%. Backtest Lens preserves both figures while also rebuilding the closed-trade curve, making it clear whether the risk came from realized losses or floating exposure.

Backtest report or account history?

A Strategy Tester report describes a controlled historical simulation. An account-history report describes completed activity on an account and may contain several EAs, symbols, deposits and withdrawals. Backtest Lens accepts both workflows but keeps their meaning separate, so cashflows are not counted as strategy profit and mixed history can be filtered by Magic number. The public MultiFXbot MT5 page demonstrates the third workflow: regularly refreshed balance, equity, positions and completed deals from a live account.

  • Use tester reports to evaluate one configuration and modeling period.
  • Use account history to audit realized multi-strategy performance.
  • Use live monitoring when floating equity and open positions matter.
02

Checks to perform before going live

Review the test interval, number of trades and monthly distribution before relying on ratios. Compare balance and equity drawdown, inspect the worst recovery period and look for dependence on a single market regime. If several EAs will share capital, continue with portfolio analysis rather than approving them independently.

  • Confirm that dates and symbol match the intended test.
  • Check that the sample contains enough trades and market conditions.
  • Treat unusually high returns as a reason for deeper validation, not automatic approval.
SCOPE AND LIMITS

What this analysis does not prove

  • The analyzer reads exported HTML/HTM reports; it does not rerun the MetaTrader testing engine.
  • Missing fields cannot be reconstructed reliably when they are absent from the source report.
  • Live MT5 monitoring requires an account and collector setup; uploaded reports do not update automatically.
HOW IT WORKS

From MetaTrader report to actionable evidence

1Export the MT5 test or history report as HTML
